What are anodized aluminum profiles?

Aluminium profile anodizing process

  1. Pretreatment: First, the aluminum profiles need to be cleaned to remove impurities, grease and dirt on the surface.
  2. Anodizing: The aluminum profile is immersed in an acidic solution containing sulfuric acid or oxalic acid, and then an electric current is applied to the aluminum to form an oxide film. This oxide film is a hard aluminum oxide layer formed on the surface of aluminum, enhancing its hardness and corrosion resistance.
  3. Dyeing (optional): Dyeing is an optional step in the anodizing process, which can change the color of the aluminum profile. During the dyeing process, aluminum profiles are soaked in dye so that the color is absorbed into the pores of the oxide layer.
  4. Sealing treatment: Finally, dyed or undyed aluminum profiles are usually sealed to lock in the oxide layer and further improve their corrosion resistance.

Why should aluminum profiles be anodized?

  1. Decorative. After the aluminum profile is anodized, a protective film will be formed on the surface, and this protective film is highly translucent. If dyes of other colors are added, a colored oxide film will be formed.
  2. Non-conductive. We know that aluminum profiles themselves are conductive, and many electrified frames cannot be used. However, after the aluminum profile is anodized, it no longer conducts electricity. Therefore, many live equipment can be made of aluminum profiles.
  3. Anti-corrosive. Since the film layer obtained by anodization itself has sufficient stability in the atmosphere, the oxide film on the aluminum surface can be used as a protective layer. The oxide film obtained by anodizing aluminum in a chromic acid solution is dense and has good corrosion resistance.
